DeKalb County is working together with the PATH Foundation on plans to connect Medlock Park with Lulah Hills (the new development at the site of the old North DeKalb Mall). The goal is to promote ways that residents of Medlock can get to Lulah Hills without getting into their cars and that new residents of Lulah Hills can get to places like Medlock Park, Mason Mill Park, the VA, Emory, and the CDC without getting into their cars.

This project has been in the works and discussed for the last several years, including multiple public meetings. Chris Beck, as president of CSNP, has been involved with the planning process from the very beginning. The route in CSNP will follow existing boardwalks and the sewer easement along the creek until bridging over to the floodplain across the creek. Also, a sidewalk will be installed along the length of Pine Bluff Drive.

We have worked very closely with PATH to limit the impact. Only 2 trees in declining health will be impacted by the project. We will also be closely monitoring construction to ensure that there is minimal impact. We also plan to install new soft surface trails for walkers in some areas and PATH has committed to installing natural barriers to prevent bikes from using these soft surface trails.

We know that not all people are in favor of the PATH and realize that there are trade-offs. However, we think providing greater alternative transportation connectivity is important.
